Blogging with TextMate and ExpressionEngine

I wrote a tip a while back about how to blog with TextMate. At the time I was just using WordPress for the majority of my blogging needs. Well I have since discovered the beauty of ExpressionEngine and it’s quickly become my publishing system of choice. I wanted to get my company’s blog setup to receive my TextMate blog entries correctly similar to how WordPress already did. Before going and doing this all by my lonesome I thought I might Google around a bit. Well I’m glad I did because Patrick Reagan (no relation), the Development Director at Viget Labs had already gone through, and documented, their process. If you want to blog with TextMate & ExpressionEngine this link is a must read.

TextMate: Power Editing for the Mac

Looking around for literature covering the complete awesomeness of TextMate I came across this book published by The Pragmatic Programmers. It’s called “TextMate: Power Editing for the Mac”. I havn’t read it yet but it’s probably a great resource for those who spend a lot of time using TextMate or even those just wanting to use it to it’s fullest extent. Here’s an excerpt from the book’s page on pragprog.com:

TextMate Themes

A little while back I wrote about optimizing TextMate for continual coding around the clock. I’ve stuck with my custom theme since I created it and I love it. Well for those of you who may not be interested in creating your own you might want to check out a free theme sharing site called TextMate Themes.

ExpressionEngine Bundle

I’m a big fan of EllisLab and their products. I think ExpressionEngine and CodeIgniter are two of the best products a PHP developer can use. Naturally when I started diving in to ExpressionEngine a few months back I went looking for an ExpressionEngine bundle. It was quite easy to find one via Google and it’s doing a good job for me. It was created by Chris Ruzin in 2006 and he last updated the bundle (at the time of this writing) in February of this year. So if you’re interested in using this bundle grab it below!

Sooo…about the site

To the 7 people who come to this site from time to time - you may have noticed that nothing has changed in a long time. I must say, when I initially thought about creating this site I intended to spread the word and contribute at least 1 or 2 tips per week. Well shortly after this site was “launched” my daughter was born 12 weeks early and thus began the minimizing of my “free time”. Clearly I would choose time with my family any day over time spent online or behind a computer screen. I do, however, intend to continue contributing tips on this site and I encourage anyone else passing by to do the same if they have something worth sharing!

Replace text within a selection.

Lots of times when using textmate you’ll find that you want to replace characters within a selected area and not the whole document. If this is the case make the selection of the text you want to replace within, then use cmd-f and launch the find/replace panel. Now, type the text you want to find and replace, then hold down the option/alt key and notice the “replace” changes to “in selection”. Bingo you’re done!

Blogging with TextMate

Blogging BundleThis is another tip I found just from experimenting with the Bundles. There’s a great bundle for Blogging straight from TextMate and I use it most of the time I write in my blogs now. You can find it under Bundles > Blogging (imagine that). It takes a little setting up first so let’s go over that. Note that my experience is limited to WordPress so that will be the context of this tip.
